anotherdecree

after 2 days of non-stop rain (i know that sometimes i might exaggerate a little, but this time i am being straight up. it has been raining without cessation for 2 days), i decided something had to be done. this is how it would be, if i were a princess:

ALL RAINDROPS AND CLOUDS SEEKING ENTRY MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF RAINBOW

edit: the day after i posted this, there was no more rain!! i tell ya — sometimes you just gotta lay down the law ;)

ballet 101

so… last night i had my first ballet class in 7 years. i last took ballet my senior year of college, when i was 21… which would make it more than 7 years ago. apparently my brain has aged as well. dah. ANYWAY my memories of that college ballet class are pleasant — it was fun, lovely, and it was a good (but not impossible) workout.

my, how the times have changed.

just when you think you’re still about the same as you were 7+ years ago, you find that, no, you aged just like everyone else. i won’t give you the gory details, but suffice it to say that by the end of class, my arms, back and feet were just as sore as my legs. i’ve discovered muscles i never knew about – and by discovered, i mean i know they’re there because they hurt.

i looked more like the girl on the right

on the flip side — i remember struggling with my balance a lot in college ballet; i could never hold a relevé for more than a second or two, and it was really discouraging. but yesterday — i kid you not, i could have hung out on relevé all night long. i don’t know where that heightened (no pun intended) sense of balance came from, but i was loving it.

so anyway i’m pretty excited for this class. we’ll see how it goes overall. i have high hopes to be able to plie with the best of them before long. i’ll keep you posted (no pun intended again). (i hate puns. how did two of them creep in?)

comp’ny

we’re having us some comp’ny this weekend – always a treat! bethany (her name is) and i moseyed on down to my newest most favorite of cafes, city girl cafe.

the main reason it’s my favoritest place now isn’t the absolutely scrumptious mac n cheese n bacon… but it certainly didn’t hurt :)

also, i got a new headband. it has nothing to do with the rest of this post, but it’s SHINY.

fundamentals

remember when you were a kid, and they taught you that you can tell your left from right by making an L with your thumb and forefinger? if the fingers make the L (or was it, if they don’t make an R?), that’s the left hand. remember that? ok, so i still do that – no, i’m not proud of it, but sometimes it happens. in public. sigh. like yesterday. i looked down at my hand and had to make the L before i felt confident that i was headed the correct direction.

too bad all that was with my right hand.

forget about being embarrassed about doing that thing in public. never mind knowing left from right. apparently i need a way to tell which way L goes, first.
