stopping the buck

this is a pretty interesting article (with great photoshopping — you’ll love it!). Time Magazine (time.com) counts up the 25 people to blame for the current financial crisis. and you get to vote on them — woot.

because the article tells who the people are, who they’re associated with, and what they did wrong, i thought it was a good way to learn about what went wrong in a lot of corners — and, don’t be shocked, american consumers made the list, too.

voting you off the island, illinois

seriously, i’m gonna start voting STATES off the island. what’s going ON out there?!?!

“Gov. Blagojevich is the fifth of the last eight elected Illinois governors to be charged with a felony. If Blagojevich is convicted, we will have the unique distinction of having two former governors in jail at the same time.” Kent Redfield, in a CNN.com article.

I mean, seriously?!?!

Redfield continues: “Two years ago, most Illinois citizens suspected what they now know about Rod Blagojevich. But on Election Day, fewer than 37 percent of the eligible voters in Illinois went to the polls and a majority of them elected him to another four-year term.” Don’t even get me started.

(Redfield does offer his analysis of why Illinois has been repeatedly subject to this sort of thing. It’s a decent article. At least they can give a reason. To this day no one understands you, Florida).

(ps. another good article about it. From Time Magazine).

a culture of self

i haven’t been following much of the scandal involving the governor of illinois, but i read this article on CNN.com this morning, and was blown away. it’s written by one of the convicted watergate conspirators, charles colson, and he offers an interesting perspective on character, the american culture, political corruption, man’s fundamental inability to save himself – and our need for a Savior. definitely one of my fave articles in a while.
